<3i innovation for Future Digital Media(#immersive, #interactive, #intelligent)>

The movie is a popular medium for creative storytelling, and the global movie industry has made significant strides in providing photorealistic computer graphics and high-fidelity visual effects, seamlessly integrating virtual assets into live action films to enable imaginative storytelling. Blockbusters like "Avatar," "The Avengers," and "The Lord of the Rings" showcase these advancements.


This presentation introduces the innovative research framework "Televerse," aimed at transforming the traditional movie visual effects (VFX) pipeline into dynamic, interactive media platforms through 3i innovation; ‘3i’ stands for immersive, interactive, and intelligent. "Televerse" equips us with powerful tools for communication, storytelling, and the fusion of the virtual and real, whether remote or local.


Our research spans multiple domains, necessitating interdisciplinary collaboration in computer graphics, computer vision, virtual and augmented reality, human-computer interfaces, artificial intelligence, and creative storytelling and content creation. This talk will showcase our recent research breakthroughs in real-time visual effects, 6-DoF free-view navigation, forward and inverse rendering using AI and machine learning, immersive telepresence, and telecollaboration, integrated into a cohesive framework.


We also shed light on pathways for entrepreneurial endeavors and research transfer, facilitating the translation of research outcomes into industry impacts. A series of case studies, conducted in collaboration with industry partners, highlight the real-world applications of our work. Examples include a live-streamed mixed-reality concert, innovative virtual tourism initiatives, and our award-winning "Real-time Live!" presentation at SIGGRAPH 2023. The presentation concludes with discussions on potential applications and future research directions, followed by an interactive Q&A session.
